Why Can't We Have Nice Things Like Sunday River?

There are many things I love about my home mountain, but when I travel to ski areas like Sunday River in Maine, I admit, I suffer from FOMO. Seeing all the investments and shiny new objects there has me rethinking my choices a bit. Yes, I LOVE the snow quality and quantity here at Sugarbush, but our management team could learn a thing or two from our friends in Maine.

It has been a while since I made the trek across New Hampshire to ski at Sunday River. And frankly, it’s been because they just don’t get as much snow as Vermont. This season they’ve received about 100 inches less than Sugarbush. I try to keep an open mind on each trip I take, but I did start with a bit of a quandary: With these snow counts in mind, why families would choose Maine over Vermont? If it isn’t snow quality and quantity, what draws people to Maine?
