My daughter is a retired ski racer (for now…you never know). After the grind of bashing gates and chasing points, she’s learning to fall in love with skiing all over again (now that’s an essay I’d like to commission). As she’s moved from racer to adventurer, it’s a joy to watch her light up and explore the mountains in new ways. As I see it, my job as a mom has always been actively fostering healthy things that bring my girls joy and purpose. To follow this logic, every ski trip I plan is just good parenting!

We sit down a few times a year and dream up our ski itineraries for the upcoming season. At the top of her list of places in the U.S. to ski? Alta Mountain. She’s seen many documentaries about this gorgeous mountain, and I’ve attested that the lore can match the experience. And unlike Jackson Hole (also on her list, but sorry, it’s just not for me), it can provide her with all the challenges she wants while being incredibly inclusive to all levels of skiers.
